Eitz Chaim (The Tree of Life), shown here with seven pomegranates, symbolizes the richness of the Jewish value of giving. In Judaism, there are seven marriage vows, families wait seven days to name a baby or celebrate a Brit Milah (with the actual ceremony on the eighth day), and the mourning period of shivah lasts seven days. Pomegranates represent fertility and abundance. They are said to contain 613 seeds, the number of mitzvot (commandments) in the Torah. One of the 613 mitzvot is tzedakah, which in Modern Hebrew is translated as giving.
